First ACS Conference! Toxic Metal Sequestration Using Microfluidics (Poster)
Western Regional Meeting - American Chemical Society, Las Vegas
I finally got to present a poster at my first ACS conference! I also got to present our newly discovered pressure-sensitive, conductive PDMS. It was quite an experience with a lot of exciting research and companies. I also got to attend a course on laboratory demonstrations and received a booklet with a bunch of cool experiments!

Mercury for dinner? Aqueous Heavy Metal Sequestration (Talk)
Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters Conference at BYU
I presented my research project yet again; this time at Brigham Young University. Using microfluidics, we hope that the larger surface-to-volume ratio will improve the sequestration ability.

Mercury For Dinner? Aqueous Heavy Metal Sequestration (Talk)
Research Symposium (Fall 2021), Southern Utah University
Abstract
Heavy metals threaten aquatic life and are a danger to human health and multiple sites are reporting an increase in heavy metal concentration. Through a three-step process of pumping, separation, and removal it is possible to responsibly remove the toxic metals. A pumping device will provide a microfluidic, separation device with a continuous flow of solution. The filtration device will then separate out a high concentration, metal ion solution using an electric field. The solution will then move on to the removal phase. Using a charged gold mesh, the metal ions will reduce and form a solid which can be removed and disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.

Nitration of Benzene, An Explosive Addition
Organic Chemistry II
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to explain the general theory behind the reaction, including the formation of the nitronium intermediate, and to introduce the reader to some of the applications. Looking at the synthesis of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene, we can experience the effect of temperature on the reaction and explain the theory behind the infamous sigma complex. 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene is better known as TNT which is a popular explosive - which of course is interesting - that has been extensively utilized throughout human history for various purposes including coloring, medication, and an antifungal agent.
At the end of the paper, you will find a few problems (w/ answers) related to nitration. The first five questions are story-based free-response and the last five questions are multiple-choice.

Instagram's Effect on Physical and Mental Health
Intermediate Writing
Introduction
With an increasing part of the population on social media, these networks play an increasing role in our everyday lives. This may not always be for the greater good. One of the most popular ways of using social media is for self-promotion. The basic purpose of this is to make yourself appear more attractive than other users to receive more “currency” in the form of likes, comments, and friends in an infinite battle for appreciation, and like any battle, there are winners and losers. If you do not live up to the standards required by the community, it can have a detrimental effect on your physical and mental health.
Instagram is particularly known as being a platform popular among health influencers. The concept of this platform is highly based upon the ability to share pictures and videos with an attached description. The platform works as a database with quick and easy access to information. The scrolling feature is a revolutionary fast way to obtain a large amount of information in a relatively short amount of time. It is easy to get an overview of what defines the society in any given moment, and thereby determine what is required of you to ‘fit in’. The power the social media may, therefore, cause physical and/or mental damage.

Giving Birth From a Danish Perspective
Medical Anthropology
Introduction
There seem to be a significant difference in the childbirth experience for women in the United States compared to women in Denmark. Looking at the Danish system may provide us with information to improve the US system and better the experience for women before and during childbirth. Cultural norms and structural factors may be highly impacting a woman’s experience related to pregnancy and childbirth. This study will use a narrative from a Danish woman and relevant published works to determine the cultural influence on pregnancy and childbirth.

Analysis of Volvo's Use of Postmodernism In Commercials
Marketing & Danish
Abstract
The project intends to answer the question: how does Volvo reach its target group with the use of postmodernism together with celebrities in modern advertising? The answer will be based on an analysis of two Volvo commercials from the year 2016, relevant studies of the use of postmodernism and celebrities in advertising and valuation of whether the commercials hit Volvo Car’s target group. To define Volvo Car’s target group a segmentation of the United Kingdom and Sweden has been made. The research found that the two commercials separately do not fully hit Volvo Car’s target group because of a division of focus points, yet if watched together fully cover the needs for efficiently hitting the target group. Beyond that, the use of celebrities and postmodernism contributes to a more interesting commercial and better penetration of today’s highly cluttered advertising environment.

Make Plantorama An Excursion - Case Study
Marketing and Business Economics
Abstract
Provided with general information about Plantorama A/S a major challenge was chosen based on an analysis of the market situation. Their biggest challenge was found to be high competition among concept-sharing businesses as well as a significant threat from local niche companies.
In order to reduce the threat, a, further, development of Plantorama's concept was suggested, This included the implementation of shop-in-shop food stores in all of Plantorama's stores, thereby, removing focus from the prices and increasing focus on the experience. The price related to franchising was estimated to be 750,000 DKK ($120,000) per store excluding implementation. A promotion campaign was developed to bring focus onto the new concept which included ads in concept-fitting magazines with break-even at 1,100,000 DKK ($175,000). The ads was primarily targeted women with an average age of 50 of various economic status. Men were also targeted through gender neutral magazines.
